So, this year, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has been the sale everyone loves to hate or hates to love. And I totally get it; last year I got so caught up I bought WAY too many things. (I ended up returning a bunch after I found I didn’t wear them for months after)
In addition, there are big pushes in the fashion community to adopt a minimalistic and sustainable approach to our wardrobes which I am totally on board with. I’ve been paring down my closet all summer (it’s taking FOREVER)
But I still feel this sale is worth participating in and I’ll tell you why:
When you buy quality pieces that work for every season, you get more use out of your clothes, and they last longer too!
(Making less clothes in a landfill)
I would much rather buy less things that are better quality than buy tons of things that will barely last through a season. (admittedly, I am harder on my clothes than most) The only exception to this is if I want to try a new trend but I don’t want to spend a bunch just to find out if I like it.
My shopping criteria was the following:

I have to love the fit, material, and the look
-
It has to fit in with my stay at home lifestyle (I don’t need work wear)
-
It has to be something I actually NEED
-
Sleep on it before I buy it
-
Don’t buy things I already have unless I’m ready to replace it
So with all that said, the following are the items I did and did not keep from the Anniversary Sale.

I found out last year that Zella fits me particularly well, so I took the opportunity to get a new set this year! However, the leggings were about a size too big! (Thanks Self-Care!) So, DEFINITELY size down. I sent mine back but they were already sold out! Boo!
The tank top is nice and stretchy and I loved the color! Keep!
The sports bra does cut a little low in front, but is crazy comfortable! Keep!
I needed some no-show socks and these fit great! Keep!
The adidas tee fits about true to size and I find them great for workouts and for athleisure. Keep!
The Nike Shoes are ridiculously comfortable! (Maybe even more so than my Adidas All Stars! Gasp!) Keep!

Nike shorts- I was able to size down to a Medium and I love them! Didn’t realize they had built in kick pants to cover your underwear. Or I guess you could wear them as underwear? I’m new, I have no idea! I love the fit though, and they are perfect for this hot weather! I bought two colors!
Zella Leggings- You already know I love me some Zella. These ones were true to size; I got a large. Keep!
Zella sports bra- This one cuts down a little far in front, but is so comfortable its totally worth it! Keep!
These crop leggings from Zella are SO COMFY! I kept the leggings and the matching sports bra! Both ended up true to size (I bought large) and are in stock! Holla!

I have been looking for an every day crossbody bag, and I already love Sole Society’s bags, so this was a no brainer! Keep!
I have THIS bag from last year and this Back Pack Purse would be my next choice!
The Caslon Floral top is pretty and flowy! I have the one from last year, but I’ve shrunk since then (I can only wear it like a tunic) so I bought this one! The patterns are prettier in person! (Flowy fit, I took a Medium) Keep!
Spanxs Faux Leather Leggings were in the sale last year but I didn’t get them and I’m kind of glad I didn’t because I was able to get a smaller pair this year! They are crazy comfy! Keep!
This snake print moto jacket was one of the first things I knew I wanted. But…it just didn’t fit right. I think it’s a combination of needing a smaller size and the snake print being too large on my petite body. An instagram poll confirmed my suspicions. I sent this back.
I was excited to get the camo sweatshirt, but I shouldn’t have sized down like it said. This had zero stretch and so didn’t fit me right. I would buy my normal size with these. I sent this back.
I’m still on the fence about these. They are CRAZY comfy and stretchy and hug me in all the right places…except on my legs (starting behind the knees) they are just loose enough I’m not sure I could live with it. If they end up bagging out at ALL I’ll never wear them. But they are GREAT quality so I’m not sure they will. Still deciding. Size down!
I’m still on the fence about these too. They are demi boot which are supposed to be a cropped length but they fall full length on me. They are SO COMFY! I love bell bottoms though and might keep these anyway. However, now I’m wondering if the black material would be too overwhelming on my 5 foot frame. Still deciding. Size down!
Studded Loafers are comfy and super cute! One thing that kind of bothered me at first was that the sole is very skinny and so I feel like part of the upper will be walked on when I wear them. (You can kind of see in the pic) But they are comfortable and I don’t have any mustard flats, so I’m keeping them!
Due to an unfortunate mishap with a treadmill (ha! It was epic, too!) I ripped a hole in my Asics from last year. So I grabbed these Adidas Running Shoes and I’m super glad I did. I was not expecting the sole to have this fun pattern! They are soft and I can’t wait to go running in them!
This Madewell sweater is super cute. It’s boxy and oversized, but that works for me since I have a short torso and I like slouchy sweaters. The pockets give it that extra touch! Keep!
I ordered this BP Leopard cardigan first thing but was a little disappointed in the quality. The weave is more open and I feel like it may snag in the future. BUT! It’s really soft and came at a price I could live with, even if it snagged. So I kept it! Leopard and snake prints will be everywhere this fall!
Looks like I have a love affair with Madewell! I love the color of these Madewell skinnies! They are super stretchy (I had to size down!) but they feel like skinnies all the way down my leg. That’s hard to do since I carry my weight in my midsection. Keep!
Kut from the Kloth black jeans– I grew out of (shrunk out of?) all my black skinnies, as well as my favorite grey ones by Kut from the Kloth. So I was really excited to get these and the fit was just like my other ones used to be! Keep!

Caslon Cargo pants– I needed these to replace my other olive skinnies and they are great! Size down!
Articles of Society Olive Jeans– These bagged out ridiculously far after only wearing for 20 minutes or so. They went back.
Wit & Wisdom Absolution Jeans– I must be the only one on the planet who doesn’t like the absolution jeans. It makes me feel like a balloon that’s been cinched in the middle. HA! These went WAY back.
Spanx Body Shaper– I’ve been wanting one of these for ages! I finally snagged one, but now I have a dilemma. WHEN will I ever get dressed up enough to wear this? I like flowy dresses, and only have a couple form fitting dresses. Will I wear this enough to justify the cost? I’m still deciding.
Adidas Hoodie– I’m always looking for hoodies to wear to and from barre. I think I get the most use out of these than anything else in my wardrobe! Plus, I just love me some Adidas! Keep!
